Wow - that didn't take long.
4 years into our AI adventure, there's already a new Digital Divide... 🤦♂️
Specifically, AI roles are paying a ton...
...and they're mostly going to men.
Not to rehash the talent pipeline questions of the last two decades but this does genuinely feel different to me:
1) These roles aren't necessarily super technical - e.g., I just searched for "AI jobs" on LinkedIn and found Director of AI Enablement, Corporate AI Facilitator, and AI Adoption Specialist. None of these require a CS degree - which has obviously slanted male for too long.
2) They're also brand-new - i.e., if you're hiring for a Software Engineer and more boys have been fooling around with code for the last 30 years than girls, OK. But there literally was no GenAI 4 years ago - so what gives?
